Released in 1930, this lens was the first ever 35mm lens designed for stills on 35mm film, ever!
This has only 4 elements, which anyone who knows much about lenses, especially from Leica, knows is very few. (Modern mirrorless lenses typically have 12-20)
It has no optical coatings, only glass, giving the images a look that aligns with the characteristics of classic pre-war photographs.
The aperture (which is operated on the front of the lens) has different ‘stops’ to the ‘modern’ sequence, which Leica began using in the late 1930s.
Despite being only around 4cm in length, it still weighs roughly 120g, being made entirely of brass and glass.
